Fetal Surgery Fellowship Training Program Goals

Goals of the Fetal Surgery Fellowship Training Program at the Fetal Care Center of Cincinnati are:

  1. Understand the prenatal natural history of fetal index cases
  2. Integrate prenatal diagnosis with perinatal and neonatal management strategies to optimize perinatal outcome
  3. Acquire basic knowledge of prenatal ultrasound, its indications, modalities, and limitations in imaging for fetal index cases
  4. Acquire basis knowledge of fetal echocardiography in prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart defects and use in evaluation of cardiac function and dysfunction in fetal index cases and in intra-operative monitoring during fetal surgery
  5. Acquire basic knowledge of fetal MRI in the diagnosis and evaluation of fetal index cases
  6. Participate in patient counseling sessions for all fetal anomalies referred for evalulation
  7. Acquire experience with pre-operative management, intraoperative techniques, and post-operative management of EXIT procedures,  fetoscopic surgery and open fetal surgery for fetal index cases
