Cardiac Telemetry
Each Fetal Surgery Unit at the Fetal Care Center of Cincinnati patient room is equipped with a maternal telemetry unit that can track:
- Heart rate
- Cardiac output
- Respiration
- Blood pressure
- Pulse oximetry
- Temperature
- Carbon dioxide levels
Information is sent from the smaller bedside unit to the larger telemetry unit at the nurse's station. Because information is passed via the smaller unit that is attached to a strap, mothers can walk throughout the fetal surgery unit and still be monitored.
This unit also monitors the baby by helping the care team to keep track of the mother's and baby's vital signs.
Information from the telemetry unit can be printed out and transferred to a personal digital assistant / PDA, which can then be electronically sent to physicians by remote access.
