Fetal Surgery Unit Tour

Fetal Surgery Unit Conference Room

The completion of a mom's comprehensive evaluation at the Fetal Care Center of Cincinnati is an end-of-the-day meeting to review the findings of the evaluation, outline the options for care and the anticipated outcomes. These meetings occur in a Fetal Surgery Unit conference room equipped with state-of-the-art teleconferencing equipment. Attending this team meeting are all the interdisciplinary consultants who will later be involved in the care of mom and her child.

At the head of the table is a computerized notepad connected to a larger monitor on the far wall. Here fetal surgery expert Timothy Crombleholme, MD, FACS, FAAP, explains the diagnosis and treatment options. He can draw diagrams to help illustrate what he is saying.

At the Fetal Care Center of Cincinnati, we understand it is important to involve your physician from home so he or she can be involved in your care. In one corner of the conference room is a plasma screen monitor, which can be used to bring the mom's family doctor from home into the meeting by teleconferencing.

This plasma screen monitor, which leads to video-conferencing and teleconferencing capability, can also be used as a teaching tool so physicians, such as yours from home, fellows and residents can observe fetal surgeries as they occur in the operating room and learn from the Fetal Care Center's team expertise in the field.
