Thanks to our close collaborations with colleagues in the Colorectal Center for Children and The Heart Center, both at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, we are pleased to announce two new and innovative programs.

The PARM Program (Pregnancy in mothers with AnoRectal Malformations) is intended for preconception through postnatal counseling and / or management of mothers who underwent complex anorectal reconstructive surgery and are now pregnant or considering becoming pregnant. Delivery in these cases can jeopardize the complex reconstruction these mothers underwent as an infant or child. In coordination with the Fetal Care Center of Cincinnati, Drs. Alberto Peña and Marc Levitt of the Colorectal Center for Children, lead a multidisciplinary team including experts in:

  • Maternal-Fetal medicine
  • Pediatric Surgery
  • Urology
  • Gynecology

The purpose of this service is to assess the best mode of delivery and, when indicated, delivery coordinated in a setting to preserve the previous anorectal reconstruction.

The Pregnancy in Congenital Heart Disease (PCHD) Program is intended for mothers who underwent reconstructive heart surgery for congenital heart disease as an infant and are now pregnant or considering becoming pregnant. In collaboration with Larry Markham, MD, adult CHD clinic cardiologist at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, we have developed a comprehensive multidisciplinary program including:

  • Adult and Pediatric Cardiology
  • Fetal Echocardiography
  • Maternal-Fetal Medicine
  • Genetics

This program is geared to provide comprehensive evaluation and consultation regarding pregnancy management for the mother with congenital heart disease. In most cases, advice and consultation are provided to the patient and her referring obstetrician or Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician regarding recommended management for the mother's specific congenital heart defect. In unusual cases for high-risk patients, our team can provide delivery service through the Fetal Care Center of Cincinnati.
